graphic driver not getting installed

using a compaq dual core 1.73Ghz system with windows xp home edition.
uninstalled norton and installed Mcafee and after that the standby button is
not functioning, i have tried changing power settings but nothing works, i
have downloaded the graphics driver from the manufacturers website but the
latest version is not getting installed.
