Okay, my Sony Viao Laptop, with windows XP Home edition with an intel Family
chipset driver, the more up to date one apparently.

It usually crashes when playing an online Java based game, or when my
computer goes into or comes out of its screensaver.

The nature of this crash means that my driver apparently stops working
totally, and the system has to reboot, after which it sends a serious error
report and displays a window saying that Windows cannot find the
following...thing.

"http://oca.microsoft.com/resedir.aspx?sid=531&Bucket=0xEA_ialmdev5!GHALGetF ctTable%2b5c26&State=1&ID=7233a6f7-d3d0-404a-8a96-adcbbcaedfcd&LCID=1033&OS=5.1.2600.2.00010300.2.0"

That is what Windows cannot find, and seems to be the reason for all these
crashes. I've used system restore, i've followed serveral troubleshooters an
nothing is helping.

I fail to see how this is related to Windows Update?
The link you provided is dead.
In any case, have you installed the latest chipset and graphics driver?
Visited Sony's support site to check for updates?
