After my sec0nd botched attempt at installing Explorer 8 on my Vista
Ultimate, I have ended up with a gray (instead of transparent) sidebar.
Can anyone tell me how to return it to its previous transparency?

Right-click on the sidebar and select Properties. Uncheck the option
for "Sidebar is always on top of other windows".

It was already unchecked, But I tried checking, applying, unchecking,
and applying, just in case, to no avail

HOWEVER, I just realized that my problem doesn't apply only to the
sidebar. I used to have a transparent sidebar, tray, start menu, etc,
but now they are ALL gray. What might cause this to occur and how might
I change it?

Thanks but never mind. I've soloved the problem myself. It had changed
to "Windows Standard" and I just needed to reselect "Windows Aero."

With the new info, that would have been my next suggestion.

Yeah. Stupid of me not to have noticed that it was more than a sidebar
issue before I spoke up seeking help.
