sending a message with pix to a group of 80 addresses, gets hung in the
outbox, message is;

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was ''. Subject 'From Alplaus',
Account: 'pop-server.nycap.rr.com', Server: 'smtp-server.nycap.rr.com',
Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '554 Disabled by HIPS', Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 554, Error Number: 0x800CCC79

xxxxx inserted to protect the user,
called the ISP, claims 100 is max, but ISP rep didn't sound like understood
my question.
Also, what is the purpose of the pin in the lower right hand corner of the
trouble dialog box?

HIPS is security software used on a server. The most likely cause
for this issue is an excessive number of recipients. Have you tried
cutting your distribution list in half, thereby sending to only 40 at a time?
You didn't say, but I assume there is no problem with sending to a
much smaller number of recipients.

The purpose of the pushpin is to toggle between holding an error
report open indefinitely or to have it close much sooner.

Try splitting it in two groups of 40, and also see this about RR
restrictions.

Also, make sure e-mail scanning is disabled in your AV, and that you do
not have more than 1 firewall running.

Are you connected directly to RR when you send? 550 is a relaying error.

You are making progress, believe it or not. The error message is quite
different this time, indicating that the first problem (too many recipients)
has been resolved.
The current issue is due to one or more of your recipients having
changed their email address. I tested the email address
and it is indeed invalid.

I'm connected via a dlink router to the RR cable modem to the cable which
shares other people in the community before it hits the server as I
understand it. I just sent another small text msg of 3KB to a grp list of 13
which delivered OK. The other grp list of 39 (now) has text & pix of about
100KB.
I've also have been sending & receiving individual mail OK, only for about
10 ten days as this is a newer computer.
Thanks again for helping on this.

but shouldn't mail be delivered to the valid addresses in the group? some
of these addresses on this group are only used once per year (Christmas).
OE6 express allowed that. You mean I have to test all addresses in the group
before sending?

Some servers, when sending to multiple recipients, will reject only a
"bad" address and send the rest on.

Other servers will reject the entire batch, which it seems to be what
happening here.

It is not a WinMail issue.
