As far as I know, there are no Group Policies for Live Messenger, I'm
sure Jonathan will confirm that if it's correct.

I am testing Windows Live Messenger for use in our company.
I wanted to know a few things:
- Is this the replacement of MSN Messenger 8 or another product?
Most of our users use MSN 7.5 and we see it is not secure and the users have
too much freedom for settings.
- Can I set Policies for the use of Windows Live Messenger?
For example I want the users not to be able to stop the history, or in
certain cases to block file downloads, Shared Folders etc..

Thanks for any help.

Live Messenger is the next iteration of MSN Messenger. I don't believe
there are any ways to restrict features in the program. If you are in a
corporate environment, you might want to try Windows Messenger instead.
Not sure if that has group policies, but it is certainly more intended
for that kind of environment.

Thanks for the reply.
What about my first question? Do you have any idea?
And what about restricting users on certain features?

Greetings,

No there are no GPOs and you cannot block file transfer or file sharing from being performed
as it will simply send it through the Messenger server itself instead.

Thanks for the reply.
Do you know if the Folder Sharing features uses a specific port that I can
block?
Is it the same port as MSN Messenger 7 File Sharing feature?
