Had It With MS

I'm frosted over your pathetic service. You want me to disable my protection
with all the hackers and other creeps on the net. Lately I have had at
several trojan or other malware attacks. Only my level of protection stopped
the attacks. I spend more time dealing with your paranoid attitude over
piracy then I should. Millions of users are thinking the same thing. You need
to rethink your approch to customer service. As if you really care.

Hmmm sounds familiar , since MS started the "Genuine" program a lot of legal
owners are no longer able to update Windows. The only way to find out if
that's the case is by completely disabling all IE protection. MS refuses
Windows updates to most non-US owners of OEM versions, they actually break
the phone connection as soon as the word OEM is uttered.

So much for the service part of legal software.

I'm a non-US owner of an OEM version and I've never
experienced anything like that. Is it because I'm not in
your "most" category? On what knowledge and information do
you base "most"?

That is the point of OEM there is no suppport, the manufactor of the
computer is the support for the OS.

What the heck are you talking about. I have never had problems with MSFT
products or services. They have even been very nice when I spoke to them on
the phone, and by e-mail.

You're confusing "support" with "update". OEM versions
certainly do qualify for updates. They don't qualify for
direct MS support. (Whatever that's worth.)

This is a newsgroup, not Microsoft support. You would need to contact
Microsoft to inform them of your issues.

I'm also betting that plenty of people who believe they have legitimate OEM
copies of Windows actually do not. I am in the USA myself, but I have 6 OEM
licenses on different computers, all of which have had no problems with WGA,
SP2, or any of the updates so far (knocks on wood). Some of these OEMs were
pre-installed on Dell machines, others were purchased with hardware.

I got burned several years ago when our company bought a server and 5
workstations from a legitimate, popular system builder. All 6 had the same
key. I finally got them to send 6 CD's and licenses, and they went bankrupt
soon after. I wouldn't be surprised at all if system builders are installing
illegitimate copies of XP - it would save them a bundle in build cost.

Assuming he's talking about support in general, or in part at least, I can
testify that even when I was running 2000, I had occasion to place a
paid-for ($35) call to MS support. After giving up CC info, I was placed on
hold for 1 whole, complete hour, only to be hung-up on! They had my CC# and I
had to call back to cancel the whole thing! They sure didn't call ME back! I
never tried that again, needless to say. Who would under such circumstances?
Reminds me of when I was automatically billed for extra storage at Hotmail
for another year simply because I'd purchased it only for one year. (They had
no business doing any such thing without my consent. Though MS is hardly
alone on that score.) Had to call to straighten that out too. Once known, MS
was cooperative, but why such hassles in the first place? Maybe THAT is what
he's talking about. Count yourself fortunate, Joe.
