I had to roll back to 8.0

I just got a new Gateway PC, Windows Vista pre-installed.

I went directly to 8.1

First problem is that it keeps telling me I need the new Flash player,
regardless of how many times I install it.

Second problem is that Sharing Folders don't seem to exist on it. (I can
find no trace of them in the Options menu, and the button on the message
window just sends files.)

Now that I look a bit closer, I realize that the 'Go to your space' Icon was
missing,
the 'Sharing Folder' icon was missing, and the 'Change your color scheme'
was missing from beneath my personal message.

Rolling back to 8.0 and it all came back. (note, I hadn't ever had 8.0 on
the new machine until I realized the problems with 8.1)

For yout first issue run C:\windows\System32\Macromed\Flash\flash9beta
exe

Running the flash exe will fix this. 8.0 will crash in Vista
