Hanging Sync

ActiveSync 4.5
WinXP
Win Mobile 6.1 and Win Mobile 4.2

When I try to synchronise either of my phones, the initial sync takes ages,
hanging at the commencement of the sync. It eventually will sync, but it
takes about 5 minutes. it only happens on the first sync on connection.

However, if I stop the sync, then press the sync button, it syncs quickly
and properly.

Any advice on fixing this?

Are you synchronizing your Calendar and Contacts with your PC or with
Exchange?

I ask because the most common cause of this is synching a large number of
calendar entries and contacts when synchronizing with your PC. If you are
syncing with Exchange for these however, this is a moot point.

Verify that your device is plugged into a USB 2.0 port on your PC (not a
hub). This can impact performance as well. Also, it could be something
with the actual partnership in ActiveSync. You could delete it and
re-establish it and see if that helps things along (although the first sync
will still be long the first time).
