Hangs while trying to update

I am running XP with SP2 installed. Immediatly after SP2 installed nothing
else has installed. Additionally today I tried to install a 2nd HD and the
autoinstall feature hung up also while trying to install from a CD. I finally
got it to execute in Safe Mode, but ended with errors when attempting to
execute the partisipation program. I was going to remove SP2 via Add/Remove
programs but though a second opnion was in order. Here is my
