Hi,

I used to be able to open clipboard in XP to clear its content, but now it
isn't available and the clip.exe doesn't open. How does one clear the
clipboard in Vista?

From Windows Help

The Clipboard Viewer is no longer a part of Windows. Windows XP used
utility called ClipBook Viewer (CLIPBRD.EXE), which is also no longe
included in Vist

The CLIP.EXE program that you mention having used in XP was likely
third-party utility that you had installed

If you wish to clear the clipboard, have not you tried simplyin
copying something else? The act of copying a file from Explorer, or tex
in Notepad or Word (or any other program that support Cut & Paste), wil
"clear" the previous contents of the clipboard

Some programs, like Corel Paint Shop Pro, have a command to clear th
clipboard of all its current information

Just copy a blank space from anywhere you can copy to the clipboard and it
is clear except for that space.

clip.exe is part of Vista (in the Windows/System32 folder) and not anything
that I installed. Anyway, does anyone have an anser how to clear the
clipboard?

Anyway, I just copied the file from my XP CD and made it a shortcut in my
quicklaunch, works a treat.

CLIP.EXE is Windows Vista is a command line tool. The following text is
a snapshot of the output from a Vista Command Line window, where the
comand "CLIP /?" has been executed:

Code:
--------------------

C:\Users\Peter Dzomlija>clip /?
CLIP
Description:
Redirects output of command line tools to the Windows clipboard.
This text output can then be pasted into other programs.
Parameter List:
/? Displays this help message.
Examples:
DIR | CLIP Places a copy of the current directory
listing into the Windows clipboard.
CLIP < README.TXT Places a copy of the text from readme.txt
on to the Windows clipboard.
C:\Users\Peter Dzomlija>

--------------------

The following is a snapshot of a command-line window in Windows XP,
showing the search for all files named CLIP*.*:

Code:
--------------------

C:\>dir clip*.* /s /a
Volume in drive C has no label.
Volume Serial Number is 6C40-B88A
Directory of C:\lotus\wordpro\graphics
1996/08/28 03:23 AM 2,520 clipbord.sdw
1 File(s) 2,520 bytes
Directory of C:\WINDOWS\Help
2001/08/23 02:00 PM 25,129 clipbrd.chm
2001/08/23 02:00 PM 45,445 clipbrd.hlp
2 File(s) 70,574 bytes
Directory of C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch
2008/02/17 11:25 AM 26,430 CLIPBRD.EXE-1B911FB5.pf
1 File(s) 26,430 bytes
Directory of C:\WINDOWS\system32
2004/08/04 12:56 AM 102,912 clipbrd.exe
2004/08/04 12:56 AM 33,280 clipsrv.exe
2 File(s) 136,192 bytes
Directory of C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache
2004/08/04 12:56 AM 102,912 clipbrd.exe
2004/08/04 12:56 AM 33,280 clipsrv.exe
2 File(s) 136,192 bytes
Total Files Listed:
8 File(s) 371,908 bytes
0 Dir(s) 64,900,153,344 bytes free
C:\>

--------------------

The conclusion? CLIP.EXE is not a standard part of Windows XP, as you
claim. The reference you make is to a third-party utility, which is
clearly different to the functions of CLIP.EXE as provided for in
Windows Vista.

If you want to clear the clipboard of it's existing data, just copy a
blank space from within NOTEPAD or some other text editor.

Where did I say it was a strandard in XP? Please read the thread over again,
and you'll see you didn't read it correctly.

Too difficult, and I just stated that I copied the clipboard.exe from my XP
(as I have one for this PC as my system is an upgrade to Vista, get it now)
and it works just fine..

Thanks for this but I already have the solution and I don't need to type it
in a command line (or in Start/Run).
