What happened to my favorites?

Hi all,
My 3 yr. old daughter likes to play Purble Place on my laptop, but
unfortunately sometimes she goes exploring and opens up lots of other
programs. I have even seen her dragging and dropping objects before. The
problem is, she's done something to my Favorites in Internet Explorer. When
I click on the Favorites star, I get an error message that says "Location
Not Available." There is a lenghthy message that says
"c:\users\ludwig\favorites\favorites\favorites refers to a location that is
unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer or on a network.
Check to make sure the disc is properly inserted, etc..." So I did some
exploring (no pun intended!) and found that she somehow dragged my Favorites
folder in the Pictures folder. I thought it was just going to be a matter
of dragging it back to the proper location, but that still didn't work. I
still get the same error message and furthermore, it won't even let me
create new favorites. I seems like it works to create new ones, but when I
click on the star, they are not there. I tried using system restore, but it
didn't work. In fact, IE would work at all when I dd that, so I reverted
back. Does anyone know how to repair my Favorites folder?
Thanks,
Jim

Try to do a `System Restore` to just before she mucked
up your machine James.

Hi,

Right click the folder under Windows Explorer at C:\Users\<user>\Favorites,
choose properties. On the Location tab, click the button to restore default
location.

Since you allow a 3 year old to "play" and "explore" on your laptop, you
should expect problems. At this point, your daughter may have mucked up your
OS beyond just misplacing the Favorites folder. The best advice: To maintain
stability of your OS and computer, get your daughter a computer of her own
and don't allow others on yours.

With all the answers you've received, one of them should get you back on the
road.
My comment is about Windows SteadyState. If you're going to allow a three
year old to use your laptop as a toy, you have to prepare for the enevitable
to happen. Install Windows SteadyState, and use it. it will fix these kinds
of issues with a simple reboot.

I'm not sure why it didn't work the first time, but I tried dragging and
dropping my Favorites folder to the correct location again and this time it
worked. So problem solved! Thanks for all the replies.

Hi

I'm new to this forum so please bear with me if I haven't posted thi
correctly. I have also not been able to add favorites on my new Son
Vaio with Vista Home Premium and using IE7. I got the same error messag
as below 'location not available' etc. I found a posting on anothe
forum that suggested the following

locate the favorites folder in c:\users et
right click and select propertie
click on location tab
click on restore all default

I did this and created a new folder and moved the links to it, then
deleted the original folder. Now I can add links and they do appear whe
I click on the gold favorites star, all appear to be working ok

My question is have I altered any of the security settings by doin
this, or is there anything else I should check because I've done this
As I said I'm new to the forum and not really computer literate s
looking for a bit of peace of mind!! Thanks in advance for any replies
