Hello,

Just installed the newest Messenger build for Messenger 2009, build
14.0.8050.1202-and the Signature Sounds are missing? Any ideas why it was
removed?

Jeff

I noticed that too. I hope it makes a return. I liked it.

Greetings Jeff,

I haven't heard officially, but I expect it didn't meet the quality/usability testing bar.
For instance, there was a lot of frustration I heard about how long a signature sound took to
start working never mind the bandwidth necessary for it to work.

An alternative explanation is that some higher up at Microsoft went insane after hearing
someone's techno/fusion/death metal repeated over and over as the same people signed in.

Oh rats!

It couldn't have been the rip-roaring fart could it? .....or the Stripper
theme.....or maybe someone took a dislike to the sound of explosions <vbeg>

Oh well, I guess I can't "shake my booty" anymore either ;-)

Hi Jonathan,
:-)
Been awhile, anyhow, I really liked that feature and since Messenger now
has the ability to add sounds to contacts with the option of not having
sounds play at all, still a bummer that it was removed.

I liked the Signature sounds so i want em back ... and for those who di
not, why not just turn them off. And bandwidth issues?

And I'd like to see an in application volume control for th
soundeffects (and signature sounds)... that is separeted from the voic
com stuff

I'm more irriteted by the fact that all the new chat windows allway
pop-up automatically on recieving a message ... that's annoying
Why can't Messager just indicate i have a message from a contact an
let me chose when to view the chat dialog??

//Want my signature back ..

Hi Jeff,

It's not the first time something's been removed in Messenger and made a come back a little
later. It's possible the same thing might happen again with signature sounds.

Hi,

Yes there is rather a big bandwidth issue. Microsoft still wants Messenger to be usable on
dialup, never mind on corporate networks where IT people are squeamish about bandwidth being
used for non-business related things. Even if you muted signature sounds, they were still
downloading in the background from all your contacts.

I'm not sure what you mean about these pop-ups. Messenger conversation windows stay on the
taskbar and don't automatically open. There are however third-party tools which will do
this, which you may have installed. If you mean just the "alert" toast pop-ups, you can
turn off the ones that show up when someone IMs you in the Messenger Options dialog.

Hope it comes back! It was such a cool option ! Also, while away from the
computer,I knew who was signing in so I knew weather to get back quickly or
not. It also added a little more FUN to messaging!
Please bring it back!
