Vista Ultimate
My hard disk is continuously being accessed by some process.
I do not see anything on Process Explorer doing this.
How do I stop beating up my hard disk?
What causes this?
Does indexing show up on Process Explorer (a better Task Manager from
Microsoft Sysinternals)?
I blew up a C: hard disk recently and had to reinstall everything.
I do not want to go through that again.

Use Process Explorer to see what is doing all of the disk I/O. Indexing,
SearchIndexer.exe, does indeed show up in Process Explorer.
On my machine, the sidebar does a lot of disk I/O.

This is a wellknown issue for newly installed Vista OS. Mainly it is caused
by the Index Service.
After some days this will be history and from then your hd led will only
blink now and then.

I see nothing unusual.
The HD is quiet now and I see no difference in Process Explorer CPU usage.
I hovered the mouse over the expanded graphs and saw no unusual apps
running.
