Hard Drive to Another PC

Hi There
Wondered if someone can tell me whether I can take the hard drive from my
Packard Bell Phenom with an AMD chip, and place it in my Hewlett Packard
Compaq Presario with Intel chip (basically side by side) and will it run
happily?

As I've turned virtually all of Vista's fancy bits off, it works reasonably
well, but I still like my Compaq Presario.

Thanks, any help appreciated
Alan

It's got nothing to do with AMT/Intel.

The drives on your new machine are probably SATA. Your old drive
likely is IDE. You'll need to check your specs to see if the new
machine has a compatable socket for your drive (it probably won't).

Sounds like your old machine still works. Do a backup of some kind,
and restore to your new machine.

Could also use a program like Acronis True Image to clone the drive to
another drive and give that a shot. Things "may" work with the same drive or
an image of the drive after a couple of reboots and driver changes but your
best bet is to back up your data, do a "fresh" install of your OS and
software and then bring in your data. You really don't need the likely
clutter of your old drive in your new upgraded world anyway.....spring
cleaning!

You can use Clonezilla to do a disk to disk copy or back up to a
compressed image file and restore to a new harddrive. I like to burn a
compressed image file to a dvd and always have a fresh system backup.
