I have a PC with 6 hard drives, used for video editing.
Each time I buy a larger drive on sale, I want to take out a smaller drive
from my PC.

Is there a tool that can list all hard drives, and for each drive, indicate:

IDE or SATA
capacity
partitions and drive letters assigned
rotational speed (e.g. 5400 rpm or 7200 rpm)
brand and model (so I can easily identify the drive when I open the PC to
remove it)

The above info would allow me to quickly pick the drive to be replaced.

2 tools you can try.
1. devmgmt.msc run that and expand disk drives. you get brand, model, type
2. diskmgmt.msc a bit more useful as it tells you capacity, % free
disk management started from admin. power ID will list capacity, % free etc
windows start key, diskmgmt.msc, hit enter key
will get u there
if you are not administration ID, instead of hitting enter key, right click
or the entry in the popup and choose run as administrator

it does not show drive type but you can always record that on the drive,

I only have about 6 drives and I use the volume name to indicate type and
make a $Drive.txt file to record detail of the drive characteristics. I also
have a sticker on the drive on the side protruding out of the drive mount.
sticker: has model, size, my own drive code. Sata drive port / is on the end
of the sata cable for sata drives.
