I am currently down to 17 GB of hard disk space left and just ordered
new hard drive from newegg.... my question is, when I install my ne
hard drive, does it necessarily have to be the primary partition i
order to install programs and games? for example.... lets say my c driv
is almost full and I want to install far cry 2 onto the new drive...
will that be possible

Hi,

Certainly. You can install software to any volume you wish.

You just ordered a new hard drive because you are running low on space.

The new drive is likely larger in capacity than your old drive. It likely
has a larger drive cache. It may well operate at a higher RPM than the older
drive. In other words, it is likely faster.

I would certainly clone the old drive to the new drive and use the new drive
to house the operating system. I would then clear the old drive (delete all
partitions - create new partition - format new partition) and use the old
drive as the secondary drive in your computer.

I was actually thinking the same thing about the speed but was not awar
the a drive could be cloned and then used as the primary os drive. Ho
would I go about doing this? What software? Once I create a clone of m
C drive, how would I assign the "new" d drive clone to be the primary o
drive. I'm guessing I would have to find a way to rename the drives an
then label the new drive c: and vice versa... then I can format th
original partition without a worry. also, will this have a negativ
effect on the registry or anything else? Please help... I just spent th
last e or 4 days tweaking Windows Vista Home Premium 64 Bit to my likin
and would hate to have to lose all the custom settings in the registr
and so on.... Thanks in advance.

go to http://www.fssdev.com/products/casper/ and check out Casper. Been
using it for years.
Clone your old drive to the new one and then plug it in place of your old
drive. The new drive will then become C:\ automatically.
You can then wipe your old drive and use it for data or better yet use it as
a backup for Casper. If your new drive ever goes belly up just replace it
with the old cloned drive and you are back in business up to the point you
last backed up (cloned). I clone my drives at least once a week of whenever
I make major changes or new installs. The initial clone will take a little
while, but after that subsequent clones (updates) run pretty fast.
