programs worth about 5 at most, i am down to 78gb and dropping fast.

Please do not confuse memory with disk space. Memory is RAM, the thing
you probably have 1 or 2GB of. Disk space is what you had 104GB of.

Opening applications has nothing to do with disk space. Do you mean
with every application you *install*?

What programs did you install? How long has it been since you had
104GB? Have you checked how much space is being used by System
Restore?

new computer and i should have had 104 gb upon loading from box, but i
started with only 91.1gb, can you tell me why this is? I am still losing hard
drive space when i have no applications running, could you tell me why this
is please?
I thibnk this only seems to be when i am conected to the internet, when i
have my wireless enabled, i tried the other day going on the computer with
the wireless disabled and i didnt lose any hard drive space.

Google for Sequoia View. Free program that will give you a graphical
representation of your HD to show you what's taking up the most space.

I'm new to vista but if I were to guess at were the space has gone or what
is taking it up

I'd say system restore or shadow copies which would be created by vista
every time anything is installed/loaded or changed.

if thats the case you can reclaim the space using the Disk Cleanup tool
Programs \ Accessories \ System Tools \ Disk Cleanup

on the more options tab it will allow you to remove all but the most recent
restore point this should allow you to reclaim some HD space..

I hope this helps you reclaim some of the un accounted for space.I believe
there is a good chance that it will, if not I don't know what to tell you
othere than good luck.
