Hardware Update

when I get harware updates and download them, the hardware in question stops
working and I have to revert computer back to before download. This as
happened twice 1,sound card or motherboard, 2,wireless adaptor (Wanadoo
Broadband)
AmI missing out something?

You should not be downloading hardware updates from the Windows Update site.

Always get the latest from the hardware manufacturer's web site.
