Yes. It took an hour from start to finish. The only problem I found was I
had to reset my readyboost. Everything else I've tried so far is good. I got
it at 4:30 EDT

I am told that I am already up to date; my version of Vista is in English
but I have the Netherlands chosen as my location.

I am told I am update. I uninstalled the SP1 RC and assume I will receive
the SP1 at a later date.

If anyone has any info to share with me, I'm all ears. Thanks, DH

Try turning off automatic updates then set it to download and notify you.
Then go back and check for updates. It worked for me, Hope this helps.

Perhaps you can check this article Dave -

Windows Vista Service Pack 1 is not available for installation from Windows
Update and is not offered by Automatic Updates:

I tried that as well as other things. I am still told I am up to date so I
will just wait until the final version (which supports all languages) comes
out and see if I am then told I have an update.

Thanks, DH

Hello TaurArian
So have things moved on from your post - see Carey Frisch advice

Quote copy/paste

Actually, it is much better to use Windows Update to obtain SP1.

1) Windows Update will scan and offer any updated drivers that are
recommended prior to installing the SP. It is safer/better for most people
to use Windows Update.

2) The update is typically 65 MB or a little bit more, whereas the full
download link is much larger (434 MB). Windows Update downloads a special
compressed format, but it builds up a FULL copy on your hard disk just
exactly like the standalone download before beginning the install process.
So in effect, the actual SP install works the same.

Please visit:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...9-101a3754bad6
if you want to learn more about the binary delta compression utilized by
Windows Update.

I tried both methods of installing SP1 and the Windows Update
method is definitely quicker.

Makes it difficult to decide whether or not to DL the compressed from WU or
the longer version from DL Centre????

Yes, hard decision but again personal choice. One would think if you were offered SP1,
then it would be safe to install the same and that your drivers were okay etc.

Agreed WU for most would be the safest, easiest (we hope) and more regulated. The only
problem is that not everyone can download the 65 meg - slow connection, limited or
whatever.

More articles - A device driver is not installed, or a hardware device does not function
correctly after you install Windows Vista Service Pack 1
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/948187

You are prompted to activate Windows Vista after you install Windows Vista Service Pack 1
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947519

Whatever way you decide Antioch, just make sure you have a disaster plan - backup/image
the drive.

Good luck.

K

Hello TaurArian
Thank you for the additional 2 links.
I have decided on my course of action and will attempt over the weekend.
I have a plan 'A' disaster plan - Plan 'B' is to unpack an old P4 system
with WIN 2000 NT on it and give it to her :-)
