Greetings Brian,
The 0x8000ffff message in this case generally means that existing installer components are
still installed. You may want to visit Add or Remove Programs/Programs and Features in the
Control Panel and make sure that the 'Windows Live Essentials' has been removed.
If it already has, you can just bypass the interface for the installer and just run the
Microsoft Installer file for 8.5 directly from here:
