I hate Windows Update on VISTA

I absolutely cannot stand windows update on vista. I keep getting an
8024402C error when logged in locally as an admin with an outside internet
connection. When I log into our network I get an 80072EFD when doing
updates. I cannot run updates at all. The windows firewall is disabled, and
we do not have a WSUS server so I basically cannot run updates on this
computer at all even though I am an administrator. Any help would be
appreciated. Thanks.

When using an outside internet connection, I found that if you switch to
using a WORKGROUP instead of a DOMAIN, Windows Update will work. Painful,
because you then have to switch back to the DOMAIN.

Thanks a lot, that worked great. I have been stressing out over that for a
while now, I guess it makes sense. It is a pain but luckily we only have one
computer with Vista and its mine so I won't mind taking it off the domain and
adding it back in for updates every once in a while. Thanks for all your
help.

Try this one:

Changed the value of the registry key UseWUserver
(HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Windowsu pdate\AU) from 1 to 0.
From what I understand, if this is set to 1, it uses the custom server
defined in WUServer and WUStatusServer.

bishibushi, You have hijacked a Vista "I hate Windows Update" posting.

Perhaps start your own posting on a more appropriate NG. This one is
attempting to deal with problems related to Windows Update.

Assuming you are using *Vista* as that is the posting you hijacked -
