Well, the first thing I noticed when I got my Acer Aspire M5640; was i
didn't come with a boot/format/restore disk. I figured, well hell, i
anything went wrong I'd just install which I love much better to b
Windows XP.

Turns out, that isn't the case. After my "TCPIP.sys"(registry file, an
network protocol driver); I managed to have no internet, unable to fi
it, I decided now was the best time to format the drive.. luckily I ha
the extra 250gb hard-drive that came with the system.

Soon I realized.. what the f**k? My Windows XP won't boot, eh well thi
is a pain in the ass. So, I went about trying to re-install vista usin
an earlier Vista *beta* DVD I've obtained from Microsoft when vista wa
more new. I figured that'd be good enough to at least get me online so
can install linux.. What happend? Well, instead it deleted the Window
folder, and so forth, then decides it cannot finish the installation..

-stares- well.. wow, okay.. after coming to terms with this. I finall
got a Ubuntu Linux boot disk from a friend, and decided I'll put this i
so I can get back to work on what I've backed up.. Well, I'll be damme
!

Even ubuntu won't boot, which I've never had a problem with before.
Now, I'm beginning to become annoyed.

Any help on why I cannot get the boot disk to boot? Thanks

Sounds like defective hardware. I'd send it back.

Acer has a simple restore to factory default setting by pressing F11
if you haven't created a "Restore CD".
Restoring Acer Aspire to factory settings make like new again ...

P.S. C&P from User Manual:

Acer eRecovery and Acer disc-to-disc recovery are protected by a

password that can be changed by the user. Follow the steps below to

change the password in Acer eRecovery.

1 Boot to Windows XP.

2 Press <Alt>+<F10> to open the Acer eRecovery utility.

3 Enter the password to proceed. The default password is six zeros.

4 In the Acer eRecovery window, select Recovery settings and click

Next.

5 In the Recovery settings window, select Password: Change Acer

eRecovery password and click Next.

6 Follow the instructions on screen to complete the process.

Note: If the system crashes, and will not boot to Windows, you can

run Acer disc-to-disc recovery to restore the factory default image

under DOS mode.

If everything is screwed up, including the Recovery partition, contact Acer,
and they will send you Recovery disks for a nominal $ value.
