I have a Desktop and Laptop on router same IP address?

I am understand the coding on the harddrives are differnt but the IP address
same. I have been directed to updates to download files in my laptop that I
didn't need. I even got an extra charge on my server bill. And trying to
setup a simple conection between for a new be to the networking I feel like I
opened a corp.
