Having to click my name when logging in

I’m the sole user of the PC and now the Vista start-up is asking for me to
click on my ‘pic’. I don’t have a password and it wasn’t like this when I
first installed Vista.

Any ideas on how to boot straight to the desktop?

Hello,

- Click Start
- Type: control userpasswords2
- Press enter
- If asked for permission, click Continue
- Uncheck the checkbox next to "Users must enter a username and password to
use this computer"
- Click Apply
- Enter the user name and password you wish to automatically log on with
- Click OK
- Click OK

There an app called netplwiz that you can run from the Search box and Start
menu. If you clear the checkbox that requires logging in and click OK, you
can then choose a default account to sign into, bypassing the login page.

I know that command from WinXP but didn't think to try it in Vista. I
thought there should be something more sophisticated in Control Panel, Users.

I like your site, I'll go through it when I have more time.

I came to ask if I should have to click on my name when Vista boots as I do
go directly to the desktop unlike screenshots which show the user pic.
I didn't set the password as I am the only user maybe this is why I don't
get the screen at all.

Do you have any idea why typing control userpasswords2 wouldn't work? When I
type this and hit enter, nothing happens. I get nothing!

No idea...

Couple suggestions, though ...

1) Try typing it into a run box ... Hold down the windows key and the R key
at the same time, then type control userpasswords2 into the box.

2) Try Alan's suggestion. Instead of typing control userpasswords2, type
netplwiz.
