The first thing is it won't install unless I turn off the firewall, which is
live one-care. if I tried I would get message: ERROR: 0x8104000b, and the
install would cancell. After I turn the firewall off it would go ahead and
install, until it got to the very end of the instllation. I then would get a
message from Live One-Care:
Windows Live OneCare found potentially harmful or unwanted software on your
computer

Threat Name: Adware:Win32/Funweb.gen!A
Detection Date and Time: 11/8/2008 6:03 AM
File Name: C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Messenger\msimg32.dll.

This is hard for me to understand because here is a Windows Microsoft
anti-virus/adware program telling me a file which I downloaded from Microsoft
is ADWARE. I also got the same message in Internet Explorer Ver. 8.
Please help because Live Messenger 2009 beta will not work without this file
or it is because One-care won't let me finish the install.

I have an Intel 3mgz dual core PC with 2gig memory, 500gig hardDrive,
running windows XP32 Pro.

Thanks in advance for someones help,
bdougher

Greetings,

Actually the msimg32.dll is not a component of Messenger and is not installed by Microsoft.
It's actually a component of Windows and third-party developers make use of a feature in
Windows that allows libraries to be called first if they exist in the applications folder and
then by the Windows system folder. For instance, Messenger Plus Live uses this to load
itself into Messenger. There's also third-party documentation on the web available so that
anyone can do this.

What I suggest you do as a starting point is to head over to Messenger folder, right-click
this file, choose Properties, and choose the Details tab to see what the file is identifying
itself as. Also, if there's a Digital Signatures tab, take a look at that as that will at
least validate where it came from.
