Hi Paul--

I wish you could take a picture and post it of what you mean by "hazy
windows", and you refer to Windows Mail which is Vista's email and news
reader program. I'm not sure if you mean the fonts, the background, or
both.

Try checking your display settings. As you know, every monitor has an ideal
resolution setting (rt. click desktop>Personalize>display settings and
>advanced settings button) and you can find out what that is if not with the

paperwork that came with your Pavilion by going to the HP website and
checking with the monitor stats. A quick check tells me it's ideal
resolution is 1680 x 1050; but I've seen some tests on line that prefer
1024 by 768
http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,131020/article.html

Also hit the Advanced Settings button>monitor tab>make sure you have the
appropriate screen refresh rate for your particular monitor.

Depending on your video card, there are also settings you can tweak at the
same place--some more elaborate and sophisticated than others.

Updating your video card driver could help either because of the update or
in case the video drive is corrupted. There is actually a way to test a Vid
Card in safe mode in XP or Vista rarely used.

Good luck,

CH

Perhaps you need to turn Cleartype on? Go to Start/Help & Support and enter
cleartype. It'll tell you how to do it.

Paul I asked for ideas on a forum I use a lot and they suggest you join and
post the question in their General PC Help section:
http://neosmart.net/forums/
They asked for a screenshot, and of course I can't help.

I just bought a new HP Pavilion DV9000 (dual core 1.8/160G/2GBram) and
inside the windows is very hazy looking. The window frames, web-sites in IE7
and movies look amazingly clear but some things are very hazy such as this
new email programme that comes with Vista.

any settings I can change?

Thanks
Paul

Hey Chad,
1440 x 900 is the highest setting available... I should have added that my
computer is a laptop with a 17" widescreen and 335MB available graphics
memory.

I just got a message from HP Update that the video driver needs update, so I
will do that now and see what happens.

Thanks for the input.

Cheers.
Paul
