Hi to all,
i've a sony vaio xl301 with vista home premium on a tv lcd philips
37".
The tv has a full hd panel but support only 1080i input. The problem
is that if i set the 1080i resolution on the pc the image on tv start
to flicker! I' ve tried to change the refresh rate but the only
availables values are 25hz,29hz and 30hz. I think it should be at
least 50hz!!!
Some hints?
Thanks
Carlo

Get a better graphic card. A decent one should run at 60hz or a
fraction below it for 1080i. The problem is you can't drive a 1080i
output at the low values you see without expecting problems. The
flicker is because the refresh rate is below where it needs to be to
redraw the screen. The result is always flicker because you eyes are
above the threshold where the screen gets redrawn thus you start to
see the redrawing process which shows up as flicker. Once you get to
higher refresh rates that are above the threshold where you eyes can
detect the process even though it still is there, it gets beyond human
perception with the result being you see a smooth picture without
flicker.

It's very strange that the actual graphic card (Nvidia Geforce 7600
GTL GPU - 256MB) does not support this resolution!
May be a Vista driver problem?!
Thanks
