Headers, Footers, and Printing from WLM

Hi folks,

[WLM 2011 (Build 15.4.3508.1109) and Windows 7]

Whenever I need to printout an email, WLM insists on printing the page # up
top and the date on the bottom.
I prefer to have both on top with nothing on the bottom at all. Is there any
way to adjust this?

I use Firefox (4.0) as my browser of choice 99.99% of the time (and have
successfully changed these options there with no problems)
and have also changed them in IE8 as well, which I only use for Microsoft
Updates these days.

Is there a secret hiding place for these options within WLM itself that I
just can't find?
As always, Thanks in advance!

Hi, Neil.

I doubt that there is. :>(

I'm no techie and I can't explain all that I've learned about IE/OE/WM/WLM
in 15+ years of using them, but...

The reason is buried in IE/OE history. Back in Win95, Internet Explorer was
an integral part of Windows (see the famous lawsuit against Microsoft by the
US), and Outlook Express (known briefly at first as Microsoft Internet Mail
& News) was a part of IE. In this configuration, OE relied on IE for many
support functions - and printing was one of those functions. Since 1995, IE
has gone through several generations (up to the recently-released IE). And
OE progressed to OE6, then was replaced by Windows Mail (in Vista only) and
now Windows Live Mail. While WM and WLM were significant rewrites of OE
code, even the newest WLM still relies on IE for many functions. And
printing is still one of those functions.

You said you "have also changed them in IE8 as well". Can you apply those
same changes to IE9? If so, they SHOULD carry over into WLM, just as the
did from IE8. I think! I've never used Firefox, so I can't guess how that
affects printing.

Good luck. And please report back what you learn, for the benefit of others

Hi RC!

Thanks for the trip down Memory Lane, I was a longtime OE user too, and
still miss Win3.1 <g>

I haven't upgraded IE8 to IE9 yet, but if and when I do, I'll certainly post
back here.
I still can't understand why (after turning them off IE settings) bottom
headers insist on printing.

Thanks for trying!
