Hi. I'll explain my entire story.
Well, I bought the Windows Vista Upgrade. I installed it and I had no
problems...until I got a virus. Windows defender said that they got rid of
it, but every few days, my homepage would change into this Microsoft page
saying that something was trying to change my homepage. I decided to try a
system restore. I went back as far as I could, but the homepage still
changed every few days. I decided to reinstall Vista instead. After doing
so, I could not activate my Vista. It says that my key is already in use.
Sometimes it says my key can only be used for upgrading, not for clean
installations.

I already registered my Vista when I had the virus and now it's saying I'm
doing a clean installation or my key is already being used. I'm stuck now,
and it doesn't give me the option to phone Microsoft either. Please help!
Thanks.

PS - I still have windows.old if thats going to help at all.

You can get started with phone activation by typing "slui.exe 4"
in the search field in the Start Menu and pressing Enter.
The phone activation process takes about 6 minutes.

Wow... I phoned them and then thet told me to reinstall XP then install Vista
since I have the upgrade. I really hope this works, I just deleted my
partition. Doesn't the upgrade copy invalidate the XP key forever? It's so
troublesome right now...I thought they would just give me the code. I hope
their solution will actually work. =P

THANK GOD THAT'S OVER!! No, actually the Vista upgrade is pretty clean if you
have nothing on your computer. I didn't even install any drivers or
anything, but XP took forever to install. Now, my 4th time installing my
nVidia drivers. Thanks for the help!

Oh wait... Note this - the so called "fresh vista" using an upgrade dvd
doesn't work anymore. Honestly, I tried it after I phoned MS. I was so
dissapointed cause I had to install XP again, I just wanted to try out that
little trick. =P I guess they patched it up or maybe installing vista 3
times doesnt work. Well, at least I got my comp back! =D thanks!!
