Help? All of a sudden Activesync says there are 12591 items not synchronized?

Help,

I've been using my HP-iPAQ1940 for over a year now with ActiveSync and all
seems well till yesterday, when I go about my normal sync with my desktop,
it all of a sudden says that my Calendar has 12,591 items not synchronized
(which must be wrong since I just synced the day before!) Plus my other
stuff is fine, nothing for my Contacts, or tasks and such - only my
Calendar. I don't know what to do - I get a dialog that asks: "Combine the
times on my device with the items on this computer" (will this create
duplicates?) or "Replace the items on my device with the items on this
computer" (which I wouldn't want to do since my PDA has newer info) and "Do
not synchronise this information type at this time" What should I pick?
What happened to my calendar to be 12,591 out of sync? Is it OK to keep
Caledar notes across years (I'd like to look back 5 years and find out what
I did for Christmas?)

A prompt reply would be muchly appreciated.
Thanks.

Try to sync again and it will prompt you to "Replace the items on my device
with the items on this computer". Choose replace and it will replace all the
duplicates

Hello William,

The Combine option seems to be your safest bet if you don't want to lose the
info on your PPC. However, there is a small possibility that the Calendar
information on your desktop might get duplicated. If this occurs, I suggest
you download and use the free Outlook Duplicate Remover utility, written by
Fr.Simon Rundell ---

You shouldn't be facing any problems if you want all your appointments to be
in sync. This problem must be occuring due to some corruption in the
repl.dat file. For more information about the Combine-Replace dialog,
