Help - I can't get into any of my programs

I need help! Today my computer has totally freaked out. Everytime I open
under my username, I can't get into any of my programs from the Start Menu.
I can't get to mycomputer or pictures or any of my files. It opens it for
about 3 seconds & then closes it. After that, all of my icons on my screen
disappear as well as the menu bar at the bottom. I can't right click - all I
can do is hit control-alt-delete and start over. I went and bought a spy
sweeper today but it didn't help. Has anyone ever heard of this problem or
how I can fix it? Thanks!

Reboot, and tap F8 upon initial powering up to go into Safe Mode.

Once in Safe Mode>Start>Programs>Accessories>System tools>System Restore> go
back to a date before the problem started.
