Help: Can't install messenger live

Hi:

I have two identically configured computers. One at work and one at my
house. Messenger Live installed without incident on my home computer.

On my office computer during the installation I get the message below in a
dialog box. When will MS fix the bug of posting important error messages in
dialog boxes that do not support copy and paste? I never knew how this
made any sense to anyone.

Error 1
Service 'Messenger service Sharing USN Journal Reader Service' (usnsvc)
could not be installed. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to
install system services.

The second error is Could not write value Messenger SDrive to key
\System\CurrentControlSet\Control]BackupRestore FilesnotTpBackup. Verify
the you sufficent access to that key or contact your support personnel.

Ignoring these two errors and Messenger Live will not work and MSN Messenger
7.5 is incapacitated. I have full administrative privileges so something
strange must be going on. To add insult to injury at the end of the
install, it says Messenger Live was successfully installed!

I would appreciate any tips or hints.

TIA,

Pete

At work, is there a techie person in charge of all the pcs? It looks as if
Group Policy settings may well be preventing you from installing.

I am in charge of group policy for this machine, and as I said before, I
have full administrative privileges over everything.

Things have become progressively worse. After trying one more fresh attempt
to install messenger live, when the install initiated the restart of my
machine, it messed things up so bad that windoze won't boot. Safe mode
stalls on the config driver driver number 3, last working configuration blue
screens and reboots, and the regular install locks up on the white bar.

Why did I try to update my messenger system when it worked fine?

Just to finish this thread off. After the Live Messenger install completely
destroyed my OS so I could not even boot; I was able to boot from the
Windoze CD and repair the system. Remember, use the hidden repair option
buried beneath all the install options. After repairing windoze, to my
horror the Live Messenger install continued and completed. Amazingly,
everything works now.

Best wishes,

Pete
