Help!! Changing account in Vista

Greetings all,

I purchased a new laptop with Vista home premium 64-bit and had Office
Depot do initial setup. When I boot the computer I see the computer's
name is "Admin" and there is no password or login at all. It just boots
straight in to vista ready to go. I assume since the only account on the
computer was the "Admin" account they set up then it is an
administrator account?? What I would like to do is change this name from
Admin to something more descriptive for my network and also create
password protection at bootup/logon. Is there a way to change this admin
account? If so do I need to create a standard user account as well? If
so how? It would have probably made more sense to me if I had been the
one to walk through the setup screens, but it is too late now. Thanks to
anyone that can help me!

Do not change the Admin account. Leave it with administrative privileges and
create a password for it from the User Accounts applet in Control Panel.
While there, create a Standard user account for your daily work. You can
create a password for that, too. Then log into your new Standard user
account and only use Admin for elevation/emergencies.

When you say you want to create a password at bootup, I take that to mean
you'd like to set a BIOS password. The BIOS password has nothing to do with
Windows but you will not be able to load the operating system without
entering the password. If that's what you mean, enter the BIOS and you
should see a section for Security. You'll be able to set the BIOS password
there. Be careful not to forget it.
