Cannot update my 32 bit vista machine. Haven't been able to update since
10/16/2008. My computer can't even search for updates. I get the error code
80070005. I have tried updating manually and still get the error. I have
looked at other posts, and most linked articles are no longer valid. Please
help. Haven't had a problem before this. My computer is relatively new.
Just purchased in August 2008.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

Suggestion from MS -

Install/reinstall Windows Update Client

x86-based versions of Windows - download the WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe
package now.
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=91237

Please see if installing the 3.0 client resolves the problem.

If you require more information:

A new version of the Windows Update Agent is available
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946928

Another thing you can try is resetting the security settings back to the
defaults:

Thank you for replying. I tried to download the WindowsUpdate Agent and was
unable to. Received error message. "Win Update Agent installer encountered
and unrecoverable error."

Tried to reset the settings to default using the link you provided and the
error message I received said the syntax was not correct.

I am still unable search for updates. Any other suggestions?
