HELP! Error Code: 0x80070005 - Win XP Upgrade

Upgraded from Windows 2000 Pro to Windows XP Pro.
Had no problems with Win 2K Pro.

With Windows XP Pro, I have several concerns (4),
AND No. 4 is a BIG concern/problem!!!

1.) Almost all folders, When I right-click and select "Properties",
they display as "Read-Only".
When I click to deselect Read-Only, it seems to take. EXCEPT, that if I
check the same folder, again, it will again show as "Read-Only". I can't
seem to change this attribute through Windows Explorer.

2.) After I upgraded, there are all of these "Desktop.ini" files in almost
every single folder. Can I delete them? They are just annoying.

3.) I use "Classic" Start Menu. When i right click and select either
"OPEN" or "OPEN ALL USERS" on any folder deeper than "Programs", instaed of
the folder opening, like I am used, and like is supposed to, I, instead, get
an arroneous "Move Items" window? This is very annoying. Any ideas on how
to fix this?

4.) Biggest problem of all. I can not update Windows with updates until
the first Update "Windows Update Installer 3.1" installs. However, I tried
to install it about 7 times so far. It will not install. It keeps giving me
an error message "Updates not installed successfully, You must restart your
computer for updates to ..."

Of cxourse restarting the computer (over and over and over again) does
nothing but removes the status of the update, and then I keep getting updates
are ready to be installed on your computer (for the "Windows Update Installer
3.1"), over and over and over again.

No matter how many times I tried to install this update, it always fails!
I cannot update my computer, apparently, until this installs - which for
some reason, cannot.

When I checked on the "Update History Status", it shows:
Error Code: 0x80070005

HELP!!!!!

I wrote Microsoft UPGRADE Support. They sent me a ZIP file with reset.cmd &
subinacl.exe. Once I unzipped and ran the reset.cmd per their instructions,
i was able to install the "Windows Update Installer 3.1". And after that,
finally, run the remainder of the actual Win XP pro updates (all 43 of
them!).

However, the first three minor annoyances are still unanswered.
