Well i have a problem:
On 2 of 4 computers WU doesnt work anymore.
(on the older ones)
i get a very long cpupeek and cant do anything anymore, while WU is
searching for updates.
after some time, asound 15 min i get an errorcode 0x8ddd0009.
and thats it - i cant dl any updates ...
i tried to update my other 2 computers and there it worked, had also a
cpu-peek, but then in ~5 mins it went back to normal and i could download
updates.

a list:
w2ks, 1200Mhz - AMD Duron: cpupeek, then error
w2ks, 3,06Mhz - Intel p4: cpu-peek, after ~4 min i got updates displayed
w2ks, ??? - AMD 2400 XP: nearly no cpupeek, worked after 1 min
w2kp, 700 mhz - intel ?: cpupeek, then error

I tried manual and automatic setup.
changed my ip.
loaded ghost-backups
....
well on 2 of 4 machines it worked everytime and on the other 2 it didnt...

Well i could need help, cuz if the firewall-machine cant be updated...
well... ...you know...
==> i need URGENT help...
.... dont need worms in the network after 5 mins the fw gets connected.

I have the same problem. It seemed to start
after a mid-August update that had a whole
bunch of updates for Office. At first, the
ActiveX system scan took about 10 minutes,
after which it would proceed with the update.
Now, it runs for 30 to 40 minutes, then craps
out with the 0x8DDD0009 error code.

I checked Windows Installer in Services, and it
was disabled. I enabled it and re-ran Windows
Update. When it crapped out again, I saw that
Windows Installer was disabled again. Something
seems to be disabling Windows Installer. Is this
a virus or a Microsoft Update bug?

Hi - This has been showing up a lot recently and most of the guidance
offered doesn't seem to help much, but the following has worked, especially
for some Win2k systems.

Try the following:

1. Close ALL instances of IE/OE/and Windows Explorer.
2. In Control Panel, open Internet Options.
3. Clear the TIF to include Off-line Content
4. Clear History
5. On the Advanced Tab, UNcheck "Clear third party browser extenstions"
6. Reboot, then reboot again (Yes, twice! ), and then retry Update
(Windows or Microsoft, whichever you're using.)

If It now works, then one of your BHO's is likely the problem. One known
culprit for this error is McAfee's version of Site Advisor. If you have it
installed, uninstall the McAfee Site Advisor (you may have two installed,
one under McAfee and one under Site Advisor, BTW) and then RE-check "Clear
third party browser extenstions", and then see if Update still works. If
not, then you'll just have to try disabling your BHO's one at a time to find
the problem guy. Try BHO Cop (from PC Mag if you happen to have this) or
BHODemon2, http://www.definitivesolutions.com/.

Please post back with your results.

I got Windows Update to run on my computer again.
I went to IE's Internet Options/Security tab and put
"*.microsoft.com" on the Trusted Sites list, and for
Trusted Sites I enabled just about everything having
to do with ActiveX and scripting and I disabled
Pop Up Blocker.

Now Windows Update runs the applet for 12 to 16
minutes and then gives me a menu of updates.
Whew!
