Hello everyone,

I've got a problem with my1394 firewire devices. (2 scanner, 1
DVcamcorder and 2 printers)
They all show up under Device manager and all the driver are up to
date (no yellow triangles). They all do the kerpunk sound when plugged
into my computer. But my programs cant see them nor do they show up
under “My computer” When I first installed Vista Ultimate 64, 4 months
ago, everything worked. One morning upon starting up Vista, it took
forever to load up. Then I noticed my mouse and my keyboard (USB) did
not start at startup. By plugging them in again, Vista reinstalled them.
But from that time onward I haven't been able to get the firewire back
up.

If you have any idea to try or any work around please let me know.

This is very frustrating becuase I've had to go back to XP to get my
work done. All of my devices work fine under XP Pro SP3. I do have a
dual booting system with each OS on different HD drives, not partitions.
Thanks

System
Asus PB5 deluxe
E8400 CPU
8gigs ram
ATI 2900 graphic card
Creative sound card

HI, pantheman.

This sounds like a job for...Disk Management! (diskmgmt.msc)

I've never had anything 1394 or firewire, so there may be some quirks I'm
not aware of. But, ever since Windows 2000, Disk Management has been the
tool for managing all kinds of disks, even optical drives, USB thumb drives,
cameras... Just about anything that can be assigned a "drive" letter.
Maybe you are already using DM, but you didn't mention it.

Among the settings available in Disk Management (and a couple of other
places) is "Policies", where we can set removable devices to Optimize for
Quick Removal or for Performance. (In DM, right-click the disk (left column
in Graphical View) and choose Properties.) I'm not sure how that would
impact your problem, but you mentioned the "kerplunk sound" when plugging or
unplugging the devices.

Does your dual-booting system use the Microsoft system, always booting from
the same System Volume and then branching to the chosen OS? Or do you
change the BIOS to switch to a different boot device each time?
