When installing service packs, Windows will automatically select the drive
with the most free space in order to perform the expansion of the
servicepack and subsequent running the update.
Failure on c:\system restore\... probably means that you do not have enough
freespace to contain the servicepack AND the System Restore Checkpoint that
is trying to be created prior to the update.
Either cleanup D: and C: drives, or cleanup your system restore points.
