Hi

I have read many posts on vista help images/icons/pictures that ar
missing or red x'd or not diplaying properly. I have googled it quite
lot

I have downloaded, saved to desktop, right clicked and 'merge'e
these, along with a computer restart

Fix Help.re
FixHelpand Support.vb
helpcontentfix_vista.re
png.re

Also went to regedit and did it manually
I have had no success
I am running vists home premuim sp1 on an HP computer

Currently my regedit shows
.png folder on left and when highlighted on the right it shows

(Default) REG_SZ pngfil
Content Type REG_SZ image/pn
PerceivedType REG_SZ imag

Any suggestions?
Thanks

Hi san--

All the credit (and not enough in my opinion) goes to Ramesh and his
excellent site and blog for this one:

See this article by Ramesh:

http://www.winhelponline.com/article...correctly.html

Symptoms
When you open Help and Support center in Windows Vista, one of the following
problems may occur:

Red X mark appears where the images are to be displayed
CSS styles are not applied to the pages in Help and Support
Error Internet Explorer cannot download / from Help occurs:
Resolution:

This happens if the Content Type registry setting for certain file types is
missing or incorrect. To fix the problem download helpcontentfix_vista.reg
from the Attachments section of this article and save it to Desktop.
Right-click on the downloaded file and choose Merge. The REG file fixes the
Content Type values for XML/XSL/PNG/JPG/CSS file types, and thereby resolves
the problem.

Good luck,

CH

You haven't mentioned whether System Restore is a viable option for you. If
so try it. And I have 3 other options for you.

Try SFC>at an elevated cmd prompt type sfc /scannow. If no joy then....

I wouldn't waste any more time then. If you have the Vista DVD, run startup
repair. That should reconstruct Help.

My third and last solution is this:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927392/en-us

Bootrec.exe /fixboot
Bootrec.exe /fixmbr
Bootrec.exe /scanos
Bootrec.exe //RebuildBcd

Good luck,

CH

To make it easier to use Startup Repair here are screenshots:

Hi

Thanks for the ideas..

System restore is an option (I suppose) but I have no idea when i
happened. I don't find Vista 'Help' all that helpful....except where t
find some things they moved around when they went from xp to vista. :

I just thought it was odd and I am not sure if is annoying enough t
try anything else... I would do a simple download or reg fix but I migh
just wait for an update, it seems like a lot of people have thi
problem. At least it is only with my help

If I find an easy solution I will pass it on
Thanks,
Sand

*SOLVED!!!!!!!!!!!!*

My computer is an HP running Windows Vista.
I opened Help and Support and clicked on About.
It told me the version number and that it was copyrighted by HP.

I went to the HP website...punched in my computer model number and
found the HP Help and Support program.

Downloaded... Ran... and it worked!!

So, I guess if the registry fix isn't working... go to your Help and
Support and see what company it came from, go to their web site and
redownload. It worked for my HP...

Thanks for your help Chad!
