I have been trying to solve two big problems myself, with the help of web
searches. I have come up with zero results. I installed Vista three weeks
ago. I discovered recently that system restore points are not being created.
I know I set them up. For some reason the system is not creating any. I also
noticed that I have msinfo32.exe file but no information is there. I have
tried various tips from the web searches. I can't help feeling they are
related problems. I decided to run a diagnostic on the system. I do have
corrupted or missing startup files. I have a feeling that’s related too. I
don't know how to repair the files. I did insert the Vista disk to see if I
could repair it with a partial restore from the disk. But the disk only does
that with a restore option. Since I have no restore points, my only other
option was to do a full reinstall/restore of the entire operating system.
That would set me back many days. The upside is that I do like the new OS.
I'd love to see it work perfect to really get to love it! I have a dual
system boot. I'm glad that I did that, at least. I can go back to use XP for
my deadlines. But my mail won't sync if I keep doing that. Files are all
backed up. I was thinking of backing up the programs but I’ve heard that is
not wise to do. Can anyone save me before I go under?! It’s so easy and
effortless to do so much damage in so little time! So, here are my primary
problem.
1. I need to recreate my msinfo32.exe
2. I have to get system restore up and running
3. If all fails, can I backup programs on my storage disk along with my
files, with a program to do the work? I don't mean drop and drag.
Any help or thoughts would be so enlighting..... Thanks. I hope to be able
to return the good will someday. I'm learning a lot. This has me stumped and
road blocked.
