help with KB936181 update

Hello

I had a problem with repeatable security update for Microsoft XML Core
services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB936181).
I followed Microsoft's advice on

but can not finish it successfully.

I deleted Msxml4.dll file from the %SystemRoot%\System32 folder.
Than I tried to repair MSXML 4.0 SP2 (KB936181) by using the Add or Remove
Programs item in Control Panel. It wouldn't do it, so I uninstalled it.

They say I can use the security update XML Core Services 4.0 SP2 (KB936181)
even when I do not have earlier versions of MSXML 4.0 installed.

Now the update wouldn't install.
It says: ERROR OPENING INSTALLATION LOG FILE. VERIFY THAT THE SPECIFIC LOG
FILE LOCATION EXISTS AND IS WRITABLE.


Do I have install the MSXML 4.0 SP2 before using the update??

Step 1: Download Microsoft Windows Installer CleanUp utility

=============================================

1. Visit the following link to download the utility:
http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...BD/msicuu2.exe

2. Save the file to the computer.

3. Install this tool on the computer.


Step 2: Remove MSXML software

=========================

1. Click Start -> (All) Programs -> Windows Installer Clean Up.

2. See if you can find MSXML software. If so, remove them.

3. Restart the computer.

After that, please try to reinstall MSXML 4.0 Service Pack 2 and MSXML 4.0
SP2 Security Update KB925672 and KB927978.


Step 3: Reinstall MSXML 4.0 Service Pack 2

1. Please download MSXML 4.0 Service Pack 2 and the related updates from the
following links and save them to the Desktop.

MSXML 4.0 Service Pack 2

MSXML 4.0 SP2 Security Update (KB936181)

2. When the File Download window appears, please click the Save button, and
follow the directions to save them to the Desktop.

on to the Desktop, please double-click the files to manually install them one
by one.

Thanks for your guidance for KB936181 update. Your efforts were successfully
implemented except for a later rev for the MSXML of 6.0.

Do you have a solution for the multiple installed upgrades now in history or
are they destintened to be overhead?

Maybe XP SP3 BETA will address this issue.

Thanks once again for your great help.
I seemed to work all good.

I downloaded that MSXML 4.0 and updates KB936181 and KB941833.
All that perfect.

Just thinking what about that update KB927978 which I had, do I have to
worry about it at all??
And in your guide you also mentioned KB925672. Do I need this one?
