Hello all hope someone can Help ME.

When i started up my computer this morning to check my email on windows
mail (vista). It was all deleted. Windows mail has lost my
account, folders all messages both sent & recived. It is like when you
run the program & have to set all the settings from new.

The only thing i did the night before was to run a disk clean up. Once
this was completed everthing was normal. I've no idea what has happened
& hoping the smarter people on this planet can assist me on this as i
need some of the information lost.

Any1 with any ideas???????????

Thanks

Kurt

What tool(s) did your use? If you performed a registry clean up as well,
that would certainly explain what has happened. Changes have very likely not
taken effect until after reboot.

First of all: Do a System Restore to a point in time prior to the cleanup
operation.

How to undo system changes with System Restore:
http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Win...cfdaf1033.mspx

If the System Restore is successful, but your account information is
permanently gone, you have to set up the account anew. In most email clients
this is done via the Tools > Accounts menu. You probably have to visit your
email provider's support site in order to learn what ports, encryption aso.
settings the provider uses. Of course, you also need to remember your email
address and password.

Feel free to report back in this thread if the above steps do not do the
trick.

Kurt,

Try what Charlie42 suggest, it should work. The only thing I might add is
check with your ISP's web site and see if they have a web mail client there.
If so, there is a good chance you may log into your account there and
retrieve all your present and past mails. I know Gmail does and many ISP do
as well. Even though you download to your mail client a copy is left on
their server.

You may get this error message when there has been a lot of back-and-forth
changes made to your system between restore points, such as
installing/uninstalling/reinstalling/registry changes/cleanups and so on.

Whatever caused it, I suggest you set up your email account(s) anew:

How to set up an account in Windows Mail:
http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Win...ae0861033.mspx
Where to find your email account information:
http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Win...6f2b51033.mspx

But first, try to retrieve missing emails from this folder.

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Window s Mail

AppData is hidden by default, so either type the full path into the address
bar manually, or enable hidden files and folders to be displayed. Windows
Mail stores messages with an .eml extension. Drag-and-drop the .eml files
from the AppData subfolder, straight into the corresponding box (folder) in
the Windows Mail application.

I lost all of my emails from Windows Mail when had to have virus or trojan
removed. I used a Maxtor external hard drive backup & couldn't find my
emails there. After I read your post, I did a search starting at "computer"
for C:\Users\ .... as you suggested, but what came up for me were files
labelled inbox, outbox, etc. with a dot FOL extension that I can't seem to do
anything with.
