I have been told that Microsoft Office 2003 will run well on Vista , can
anyone help with this

Yes, it will, once you have applied the Service Pack 3 update which improves
compatibility with Windows Vista:

I use Office 2003 Pro with Vista Home Premium; no probs at all.

Thanks for that looks like I will have to invest in that 2003, my Microsoft
Office 2002 is not working with Vista

That's one option. But before you do anything rash, I'd suggest you try
OpenOffice.org. It will cost you about 10 minutes and no cash. Open Office
is a completely free, open source office suite which is very compatible
with MS Office - It may very well meet all your needs.

i was disappointed with office 2003 service pack 3 that claimed it will
improve compatiblity with vista etc.
so i installed it and realised i cannot uninstall it. now i cannot open
office documents like word, powerpoint that were created about 12 years ago
(in the name of security measures). trying to follow the suggestions on the
ms knowledgebase also doesnt seem to help. i feel microsoft's changes are
sometimes unnecessary and cause more inconvenience than empowering users.

No its not, Microsoft Office files with complex formatting often do not
convert well with Open Office.org applications. The Office 2007 files are
especially worst with the OpenXML filters.
