Help!! Microsoft Update problem

I've been trying to apply an update for .NET Framework 1.1 (KB867460). The
download phase seems to have worked, but the install phase aborts with a
message saying that it failed. BUT, if I re-run Update, it says that the
download is already done and proceeds to the install and fails again. Also,
when I shut down the PC, Windows tries to apply the update. BUT, when I
reboot the update is still in existence and wants to be installed, and if I
try to install it, it fails again. Overall I've tried to update 5 times, all
failed (and the update history shows all these failed attempts). This all
leaves me hung in a loop (one foot on the boat, the other on the dock). Does
anyone have a solution for me - any help would be appreciated. Is there a
way to remove an update that is downloaded but not installed - this way,
maybe I could start fresh. Thanks.
