Help - my BT Yahoo Inbox keeps losing my emails!

If anyone can help me I would really be most grateful - over the last six months I have lost the entire contents of my Inbox twice! I have been keeping certain emails in my Inbox and definitely not deleted them. I have tried to find them and are they are not in any folders (i.e. trash, sent, draft etc) so where are they are and can I get them back? I am not on Outlook Express and use a HP Mini Notebook. Many thanks and crossing fingers someone can help...
