Help needed for updateing windows

When trying to use the new windows update site
(http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...ult.aspx?ln=en), i get
to where it says "Windows Update is looking for available updates..." but
nothing else happens.

If I leave this screen on for about 10 minutes explorer crashes. I have
tried repairing explorer and turning off auto updates but this has not worked.
