help with online games

hi all I am having problems playing unreal tournament 1999 (game of the year
edition) on windows vista home premium, the game plays fine but seems to have
problems connecting to the internet it finds all the servers but then cant
seem to ping them just stays at 0%, I have disabled the firewall and added
all the relevant ports but still no joy, I am using a router but i can play
on another machine with windows xp on through it so I guess its a vista thing
any help would be grately appreciated
