Help .... Persistent xp SP2 "Access Denied" Problem .. have tried everything

I've tried everything to get SP2 installed on xp Home ....
defragmented the hard drive, cleaned adware, tried the MS workaround
to enable permission on restricted registry keys including:

vnd.ms.radio
..DVD
..Audio.CD
..Folder

It just won't install ... I get "Access Denied" about halfway through
the install.

I'm running xp Home ... with one account. I understand there
shouldn't be a problem with this user ID installing.

Does anyone have any other ideas ... I don't really want to reinstall
the operating system if I can avoid it ... surely someone has a fix to
get this to install.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Al

I still can't get this to work. I've tried changing the permissions in
the registry as per the MS solution as noted and can't get it to work.
I keep getting access denied.

Any other sugegstions??

Do you recommend downloading the SP2 and running the install .. or
doing this through Windows Update. WOuld this make any difference.

Is there anyway to identify the exact registry key that is causing the
access problem.

I really don't want to do a format and re-install
Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Al

Al;
Follow the Service Pack Installation Checklist:
http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/spackins.htm
Installing from CD or the complete SP-2 download is often better than the
Express Installation through Windows Update.

Here are specific instructions on this error. The svcpack.log will tell you
which regkeys are locking you out.
