help please auto update NOT working - need XP S2

I tried ALL day yesterday to get Windows XP Service Pack 2. I've activated
the Autoupdates. it doesn't work. When I click on TOOLS - WINDOWS UPDATE -
it goes to the site, sits for several seconds, then shows done, with no
updates shown. the link "install updates" is not activated, nor are the
links "view installation history" or "restore hidden updates". I've been all
over the site, trying to find some way to manually download XP S2, no luck.
I had a MAJOR problem with my computer Saturday, and had to to a system
recovery. I had previously installed the XP S2 update, but after the
recovery, it was gone. Lol - I followed the instructions to Keando (posted
earlier today) - So I'm sure my updates are set correctly. Still following
those instructions, I retrieved my log information and I get the following
information:

Give this a try and see if it resolves the problem.........

Go to Start>Run and key in:
net.exe stop wuauserv
Click on OK or hit ENTER

Go to Start>Run and key in:
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
Click on OK or hit ENTER
Click on OK in the Regsvr32 dialogue box

Start>Run and key in:
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
Click on OK or hit ENTER
Click on OK in the Regsvr32 dialogue box

Start>Run and key in:
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
Click on OK or hit ENTER
Click on OK in the Regsvr32 dialogue box

Start>Run and key in:
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
Click on OK or hit ENTER
Click on OK in the Regsvr32 dialogue box

Start>Run and key in:
regsvr32 wups.dll
Click on OK or hit ENTER
Click on OK in the Regsvr32 dialogue box

Start>Run and key in:
regsvr32 wuweb.dll
Click on OK or hit ENTER
Click on OK in the Regsvr32 dialogue box

Start>Run and key in:

after 3 days of trying to update my system using several different methods
available , this posting by Patti MacLeod has abled me to update this system.
