I have a question.....if you buy a new computer with vista already on it do
you still have to buy a CD to download/get a product key for Microsoft Office
Word 2007? Or does that come with vista? Might be a "duh" question but I'm
not too quick on computers....
Thanks

Neither Microsoft Office or any of the components such as Microsoft
Word, Excel, Power Point etc have ever been included in any operating
system.

Some Computer manufacturers bundle some or all of Office with their
computers.
Many are now providing a 120 day trial of Microsoft Office.
Check with the seller of the computer for exactly what is included.

Windows and Office are separately licensed products. So normally if you buy
a PC with Windows installed, you still need to buy and install Office as an
additonal product.

But sometimes sellers will offer a package deal with Windows and Office both
pre-installed, or a copy of Office included, for you to install yourself.
This is reasonably common. So it's worth checking. If you get Office as a
bundled deal it will be cheaper than buying a separate, stand-alone copy
(you will also be getting a slightly cut-down version of Office, missing a
few features - may or may not make a difference, probably not in your
situation).

Other folks may have extra info, hope this helps a bit.

Some OEM Manufacturers include Microsoft Works, which is a very, very
watered down, poor man's relation, to Office.

ms office is not included with vista by default, though some vendors may
include it (for more money, of course). Another option would be to try
OpenOffice.org for free. It will most likely meet all your needs - and it
does import and export ms office files.
